Overview
Rural Mississippi is a state rich in history, cultural diversity, and beautiful landscapes, ripe with opportunities to develop the local economy. Its family-friendly communities are filled with southern hospitality, beautiful landscapes, and ripe with opportunities to develop the local economy in all facets.
Like many rural areas, counties in Mississippi’s RPN Community Network suffer from aging infrastructure, inadequate housing, lack of access to high-speed internet, high poverty rates, and reduced employment opportunities, which has led to population decline.
Our Rural Partners Network team and Rural Desk Officers from our fellow federal departments and commissions are collaborating with Mississippi’s rural leaders to address local priorities, such as ensuring access to safe and affordable housing, building up our infrastructure, developing and recruiting a skilled workforce, capitalizing on the outdoor recreation economy, and recovering from and building resilience to natural disasters.
