Lake District Partnership

Overview

The Lake District Partnership Community Network is a collaboration that serves as a framework for thoughtful community discussion on the real and perceived challenges currently facing Grenada and Yalobusha counties. The network will lead the efforts to shape both counties’ futures.

The Lake District Partnership Community Network is named after the largest man-made lake in the State of Mississippi. Grenada Lake is surrounded by Yalobusha and Grenada counties. It has over 2 million visitors annually, with numerous outdoor recreational opportunities. Famous for its crappie fishing and being the home of the four-pound crappie, the lake hosts more than 25 fishing tournaments annually. These events are televised with major brands coming to Grenada Lake to compete.

The Lake District is located between Jackson, Miss. and Memphis, Tenn., on Interstate 55. The district is served by interstate truck traffic, railroad that serves the continental USA, Mexico and Canada, and two municipal airports. The central location of the Lake District allows the communities to draw workforce from across 14 counties and the two major metro areas of Jackson and Memphis. This advantage allows the manufacturing sectors to continually expand in the region. The central location also creates an educational hub that encapsulates 14 community college campuses and more than nine public and private universities within a 90-mile radius. These institutions of learning represent over 85,000 students!

Camp McCain also resides in the Lake District. McCain is a Homeland Security training operations located on 13,000 acres and trains over 85,000 troops annually.

Local leaders throughout the Lake District Partnership Community Network are committed to community-driven solutions, and providing principals, goals, and action priorities that will support efforts to bring more state and federal resources to improve housing and other critical infrastructure.
