Tri-County North Delta

Overview

The Tri-County North Delta Community Network is made up of Coahoma, Quitman, and Tunica counties. These three adjacent counties in the North Delta region of Mississippi are bordered by the Mississippi River. While each of the counties share many commonalities, they also have distinct differences which this RPN network to serve as a model for growth and cooperation within the Mississippi Delta region. The counties both have two primary economic drivers: agriculture and tourism.

Millions of people per year travel to Coahoma, Tunica and Quitman. Significant groundwork has been laid in celebrating the monumental contributions of this region of the Mississippi Delta, including blues music, the Civil Rights Movement, and other cultural drivers. Coahoma County is home to a lively blues tourism scene, including music venues, lodging, and the Delta Blues Museum. Tunica County serves as a bustling and vital river port both for Tunica County and the surrounding Delta Region. Quitman County has an Amtrak stop on the City of New Orleans route running from New Orleans to Chicago, as well as the groundbreaking for the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame.

By working together towards a shared vision, the Tri County North Delta Community Network hopes to expand upon tourism and economic development, extending economic impacts that will reverberate among the North Delta. Despite the existing opportunities for economic development, the Tri-County North Delta Community Network recognizes that further collaboration is needed to develop and advance quality of life within the region. Migration and aging populations, and their peripheral effects, remain a persistent issue for all three counties. Rehabilitating aging and/or nonexistent infrastructure, providing affordable housing, and increasing opportunities for diversified workforce development are top priorities for the network. Community leaders within the Tri-County North Delta Community Network are committed to collaborative solutions as they move towards achieving their goals for the region.
