Nevada 95-80 Regional Development

Overview

The Nevada 95-80 Community Network is in Northern Nevada just east of Reno. The network consists of Humboldt and Pershing County. Humboldt County has an approximate population of 17,285 who live across a rural region with its biggest city being Winnemucca. Pershing County has a population of 6,725 people with the City of Lovelock as the county seat. The region has a combined land area of 15,695 square miles. Humboldt County is the oldest county in Nevada; whereas Pershing County is the youngest county in Nevada. In recent years, they have drawn national attention due to the Thacker Pass Lithium Mine, which is the first major lithium clay mine to open in the United States.

The NV 95-80 Community Network and Community Network Host, Nevada 95-80 Regional Development Authority are working together with their network partners to identify community needs and prioritize projects that will support economic development and community initiatives across their counties. Last year the US Department of Agriculture announced a $27 million USDA ReConnect grant to expand broadband access across Pershing County and improve high-speed internet in the region. The counties have also launched a multi-phase water and sewer infrastructure project that is set to begin development soon and will have significant impacts across the counties.
