Northern New Mexico

Overview

The Northern New Mexico Community Network includes Mora, San Miguel, Taos, and Colfax counties, covering 12,641 square miles and including a population of 76,474. This rural area bordering southern Colorado features plains, mountain peaks, rippling short-grass prairie, hidden lakes, and snowcapped mountain peaks.

Nomadic Tribes such as the Ute, Apache and Comanche roamed this area. The Santa Fe Trail later brought pioneers and cattle barons, and the northeast remains home to working ranches, rugged Westerners, and families whose European ancestors settled there more than 400 years ago.

The region’s economic base is comprised of governmental services, health service, education services, and agriculture and mining activities.
