Wilson, Edgecombe, Nash, and Johnston Community Network

Overview

The Wilson, Edgecombe, Nash, and Johnston County Community Network serves the northeastern counties of North Carolina, near Raleigh, one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. Wilson County is known as one of the most beautiful communities in North Carolina and has robust manufacturing facilities and recreational activities. Edgecombe County is an easy commute to popular destinations in the region and offers easy access to railways, airports, and many other well maintained state roads that keep it well connected to major markets. Its workforce, natural resources, location, highways, workforce development system, community college, and commitment of local government leaders all make the right ingredients for economic growth and sustainability. Nash County, part of the Rocky Mount statistical area, is located just east of Raleigh. It provides a lifestyle like larger cities but with a small-town feel. The county has a rich history in agriculture and textiles but more recently has evolved into a powerful channel for virtual industries. The final county in this network is Johnston, and is a part of the Raleigh metropolitan statistical area.  It’s the home of several unique small towns that allows residents to enjoy many of the comforts and amenities of larger surrounding cities. There are great educational and employment opportunities due to its proximity to Research Triangle and universities such as North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Duke.

The Community Network in partnership with RPN will work with the local leaders and people of these counties to address priorities for economic and community development. Some priorities already identified include improving access to mental health resources, water and sewer infrastructure, education, and the development of community facilities.
