Albemarle-Roanoke Community Network

Overview

The Albemarle-Roanoke Community Network serves the eastern communities of North Carolina, covering Martin, Bertie, Washington, and Tyrrell counties. The network boasts fertile land, including Bertie County which features uplands and lowlands and stream valleys. Tyrrell County has plenty wildlife, including red wolves, black bears and bobcats. Agri-business and fishing drives most economic activity in the region and ecotourism is fueled by the Scuppernong and Alligator Rivers. Washington County has a population of 13,723 people, and celebrates the Black Bear Festival in Plymouth, North Carolina, which is home to the world’s largest black bears. Martin County is known for its kayaking and camping available to residents on the Roanoke River. It's also known for its unique natural environments, sustainable economy, and inventive, resourceful people forging the future while recognizing and protecting their history, culture and diversity. The Community Network will work with RPN to address housing, health care, broadband, and tourism opportunities. Additional infrastructure investments will also help the county reach its economic and community development goals.
