The water crisis affecting Jackson, Mississippi has captivated national news while raising the dialogue on racial, environmental equity, and public infrastructure investment. This crisis also highlights a need for collaboration among federal, state, and local government to deliver people-centered solutions for Jackson residents.  

Seeing a doctor can be a challenge for people living in rural communities. Whether it’s because of a provider shortage, distance to a hospital, or lack of broadband, it’s not always easy to get care when you need it. That’s why the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is making it easier than ever for Veterans to access health care. 

Earlier this month, the Executive Director at Fitzgerald and Ben Hill County Development Authority met with rural leaders at the Georgia Rural Partners Network Forum to discuss investment opportunities for local Georgia communities. In Georgia, the Community Networks include the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission, Emanuel County and City of Twin City Delta Planning and Development District, and the City of Fitzgerald and Ben Hill Community Network.

Recently, USDA Rural Development (RD) met with Twin City Mayor Matt Donaldson and key community decision-makers to discuss the launch of RPN in Emanuel County. The network will allow the community to access resources within partnering agencies to develop investment strategies that build on local recreation, tourism, and business opportunities.

The strength of rural is in its people. This publication is one way RPN is working to recognize that strength and build a community of rural communities. RPN plans to share with you the many innovations and ideas advanced by people like you across the country.
